1970 Santana Abraxas

If Miles Davis Bitches Brew can make the cut so can Santana’s Abraxas.  Another Mati Klarwein work with the typography by Bob Venosa.  The art was called The Annunciation and done in 1962.  Originally painted with oil paints and casein tempera on a canvas glued to a board.  Supposedly the Virgin Mary was modeled after Klarwein’s girlfriends.  The art was discovered 8 years later by Santana in a magazine and then proceeded to make it the cover and back of this album.
